I liked the Essic message style by Chris Edgeberg, but I felt like making a few small changes to the style to make it better for my needs.

Changes:

Smaller buddy icon - 56x56 instead of 96x96.

Altered background color.

Reduced buddy name size.

Different color for transparent bar along top.

How to change the bar color:
Browse the package file and locate "background.png," located in Resources/Images. Simply change the hue of the image in Photoshop or GIMP or other related application, and save. Close any open messaging windows and reopen to see the color change.
