Adium - Xtras - View Xtra: Translator

Description

Translates text and words using the services from Google, Dicts.info and AltaVista.

Usage: %_tr{from_language, to_language, your text}

Example: %_trshow{de, en, ich mag kekse.}

You can:

send the translation with %_tr
don't send, just show it in a Growl bubble with %_trshow and
copy it to your clipboard with %_trcopy

Get Growl (if you haven't already)

from_language and to_language are these language codes:

A single word gets translated via Dicts.info, a sentence with Google or AltaVistas BabelFish (for englishdutch).

Not every combination of languages is possible. Try them out or look here for Dicts' dictionaries and here for Googles.

Translation of single words between 60+ languages will work soon.

i believe that this is now broken... at least i am now have problems with it (it had work)

"from_lang" stands for the whole language.
So use:

%_trshow{en, fr, best job}
%_trshow{en, fr, job}

Seems to work for me. Maybe one of the translation servers crashed.

I just installed this and it's not working at all... I've tried converting english to french and german and nothing comes out... help? lol

Yeah, Google changed their translation page a bit. Should work again with 2.1.1

Traditional Chinese:

%_trshow{zh, en, 您叫什麼名字？}
No translation found for "您叫什麼名字？"

%_trshow{zh-TW, en, 您叫什麼名字？}
No translation found for "您叫什麼名字？"

Simplified Chinese:

%_trshow{zh-CN, en, 您叫什么名字？}
No translation found for "您叫什么名字？"

%_trshow{zh-CN, en, 您叫什么名字？}
No translation found for "您叫什么名字？"

Translating from English to Chinese works fine, traditional or simplified.

%_tr{zh-CN, en, 您叫什么名字？}
This just sends the message in Chinese.

All of the above should work I think, since it works in Google translate.

Hi! Tnx for this cool eXtras.
I've noticed that %_tr conflict with %_track iTunes, then you can see "ack" instead of the track's name played.

This isn't working at all as of Adium 1.4b8, which I just tried it on, I'd try and fix it myself but I don't know Python at all.
Any chance of an update?

Doesn't appear to be working for me, even the example posted doesn't work:

I am on 10.6.8 running Adium 1.4.2...

DO NOT TRUST THIS PLUGIN. It uses unreadable applescript files. There is no way to verify that it's not recording all your keystrokes and then sporadically sending them out.

Moreover: THIS PLUGIN DOES NOT WORK.
