I realize that I'm almost 3 years late to the party, but I had a couple thoughts. While I like the theme, there is hardly any visual distinction between the most common states (the mario icons), especially when they're really small. Changing the color scheme on those ones, while perhaps not perfectly faithful to Mario, would help make the theme more functional.
