Submitted By Aurelio Jargas (aurelio)

Description

A bridge application between Adium and Address Book used to search, manage and keep your contacts in sync.

  • Manage: Add Adium contacts to Address Book, update card’s information using Adium data.

  • Search: Find an Adium contact in Address Book and vice versa, full text search for both applications.

  • Reports: Listing of contacts grouped by IM service, contacts with no picture, contacts present in Adium but not in Address Book and vice versa.

It is an AppleScript application with a nice Cocoa interface. Full sources available.

More info: AdiumBook site

  • Now works with Adium 1.3 and newer.
  • Fixed the display of Adium pictures.
  • Added automatic software update (Sparkle).
  • New reports for Adium contacts: list by IM service, with/without picture.

Impressive

# by Symeon on 10/03/05 at 07:27:32

VERY nice. But it would be even nicer if it worked both ways (copying photos, add addresses from AB to Adium etc.) - for short: Have the three (non-find) buttons on both sides. Then it'd be a VERY useful app. at least for me.

# by Mojoscream on 10/14/07 at 07:36:36

I agree whole heartedly! i would love to be able to make sure that all my addres Book contacts are in Adium in a quick way. Please add this in for version 1.4!!!

# by zoombronco on 10/21/05 at 14:40:21

Yeah, I love this app. It would also be very useful to allow MULTIPLE screennames for the same client. I have some friends with 2 Yahoo! IDs, or two AIM IDs, or with whom I chat by sending to their cell phone through one of the services along with a screenname. Right now, you can only add one ID per service...

# by google636 on 05/05/06 at 07:58:34

Yeah, ditto here.

I'd also like it if it could search just by first name. I use first names in my contacts list, so the search doesn't seem to work.

Please check out the new 1.4 version (Jul/2008), that features full text search in both ways. Thanks!

Worked great for me. But same issue as zoombronco with a single contact in Address Book having multiple accounts with the same service. Its possible to go into address book and add them manually though.

Also the other thing I noticed was that contacts in Adium on my Google Talk list did not populate as Jabber accounts. The contact name was shown on the Adium side but the jabber field was blank.

# by aurelio on 08/11/06 at 10:04:24

Hello, thanks for the feedback.

Please check the new 1.2 version. Google Talk is working now. Multiple accounts is still not there, but the new "Reveal in Address Book" button will help in the manual add.

# by aurelio on 09/23/06 at 03:11:04

Hello all,

Multiple accounts for the same service are (finally) implemented on the new version 1.3. Please check it out and tell me any problem. Enjoy!

# by zoombronco on 09/27/06 at 12:37:19

dude, awesome update!

the multiple screennames per services works great. only snag is, i think the "Report -> Contacts in Adium but not in AB" doesn't recognize the SNs in multiple service contacts... most of the contacts reported by that report were already in my AB. still a cool feature, tho. it worked for contacts that were in my AB but not in Adium. :)

# by aurelio on 07/29/08 at 19:26:55

Note that the reports only consider the Address Book cards who have at least one IM field filled. I guess the case is that your AB cards have no IM information. With the AdiumBook report, you can fill the fields with the handy Set IM button.

Woah, amazing!

Amazing work.

# by mashby on 09/27/06 at 19:18:22

Great little app!

The only thing I wish is that it could do a batch sync and walk through each contact to speed things up, but that a small thing in the overall scheme of things.

Nice work, thank you for this!

# by michelebugliaro on 09/28/06 at 05:11:13

Useful, should be a default in Adium.

# by Dachaz on 02/15/07 at 23:30:40

Fantastic app! Saved me 1.5 hours (if the integrated calculation thingie is correct ;))
Though, I may have found a bug: when I select a contact from the left list with a mouse everything loads up ok, but if I select the next one with the keyboard the data is kept from the last one clicked but yet if I am to press the copy picture or copy IM button the highlighted one will be copied instead of displayed one.

Great work, anyhow!

Please check out the new 1.4 version (Jul/2008), I've fixed that. Now the details are cleared when the selection changes. Thank you!

# by tasmanian_devil on 03/26/07 at 00:41:34

awesome! I've been using mac since christmas, so I installed adium, and I loved address book, and I like to be organized, so that just works out perfectly! :D AWESOME!

# by fish3k1 on 02/16/08 at 11:09:17

I'm getting the message "Adium got an error: Can't make every into type reference, (-1700).

I have no idea what this means, but I do know the Address book contacts are loading and the Adium contacts aren't.

# by aurelio on 02/16/08 at 11:49:20

Hello fish3k1,

If you're in Leopard: You need to upgrade AdiumBook to version 1.3.1.
If you're in Tiger: You need to downgrade Adium to version 1.1.4 or older.

More info at http://aurelio.net/soft/adiumbook/#issues

# by fish3k1 on 02/16/08 at 12:15:34

Ah, thanks for that. As it is I'll stick with the version I have, I think some of my other plugins etc won't work with older versions. I'll keep the App on file until I get Leopard tho :)

Very Very Very good job guys! :)

# by torusturtle on 04/14/08 at 09:43:40

Hi

Thanks for this cool tool!

Could you add Skype support?

And I found out that searching in the address book doesn't work if you search for a name of a contact which has company selected. In that case only the company name can be found.

Cheers.

# by aurelio on 07/29/08 at 19:45:15

Skype? But it's not in Adium. What exactly were you thinking?

About the company issue, you're right. I've opened a ticket for it, thanks!
