many thanks for your comments. i'm afraid that i don't really have the time nor the applescript ability to work on this any more. however, if you think you can do something with it then i'd happily post your work here.

it's a shame about pearLyrics, i don't know if you saw all the legal hoo-ha surrounding that. i imagine that it will (officially) be back online someday though...

It doesn't seem to take any longer than scripts like "Now Playing in Adium" etc. I think the delay is a combination of how often Adium runs the script and the time it takes for the server to register the change of screenname. If anyone can suggest what else is causing the slight delay then mae yourself heard...
