When I use a custom background color with any amount of transparency the fading and scrolling becomes very slow.
I'm using this on a 2.33GHz MacBook Pro, and that's about as fast as it gets now, so I don't think this should be happening. The CPU utilization goes up to 32% max when repeatedly sending messages, so it's not even close to using all of the CPU. Any ideas?

Sometimes it DOES run fast with the transparent background color. So even with the exact same settings it will sometimes run silky smooth and sometimes very slow and choppy. With the same applications running in the background.
