Adium - Xtras - View Xtra: Reddie

Description

A simple animated dock icon. It shows what could be described as a black sphere with a red glow around it and a red texture in the middle. Kinda hard to describe, now that I think about it.

The texture blurs out of focus and back into focus when online and shakes around when there's an alert. The outer glow flashes on and off when attempting to connect. When away, the texture disappears. When idle, the texture is static (no blurring in and out of focus). When the application isn't running, the icon appears without the texture and is dimmed (translucent).

I was listening to the album "Pigs of the Roman Empire", by Melvins + Lustmord... which somewhat explains the dark look of the icon, I guess.

This is my first Xtra, so bear with me if you find any problems. It was inspired by the "wobblo" dock icon, by Markus Norsted (not so much the look of it, as the fact that it's animated).

This is pretty cool! The only suggestion I have, is to possibly make switch some of the actions around. I like the online focus action, but I think it'd be cooler as the alert action. It's more subtle that way. But good job none the less!

Well, the alert status should call attention to itself, hence the rapidly shaking action of the texture within the sphere. But then, that's a question of taste, really... I like my alerts to be strong, you like yours to be subtle, neither one of us is right or wrong. ;)

In any case, I could make a different version and send it to you via email, if you want. Email me with a specification of which action you'd like for the online status and I'll set it up as soon as I get a chance. :)

Nice icon. It is very original. Though it kinda reminds me or Doom or some game like that. Good work.

I really like these, but I don't much care for red. I'd be interested in these if they were in cooler colors (like blues, greens, purples - in the same neon like style you have here.) These are really unique. :)
