I also noticed that the version you have on the website is 512x512, but the versions for Adium are not :( any particular reason?

Yes the size of the image is too big to be uploaded (adium rules)

its over 10MB? I'd rather have a full res icon than fancy animation, but that's just my vote :)

Apparently not all the icons are supposed to be 512x512 anyway, only the primary one:

That might save you some work and still let you slide under the limit :)
