A few nitpicks: (1) The hue difference between the blues in the animated Message Alert icon bugs me a little; the look would be more unified if you picked one over the other—or, better yet, added some frames to make it pulse between the hues. (2) The exclamation point in the Message Alert would better match the iconography in the Away and Busy icons if it were from a blocky, bold sans serif font (i.e., something squarer and more angular).
Excellent first effort! # by mathuaerknedam on 12/11/07 at 20:27:51As much as I hate to admit it, I can't add much to csquared beyond even less important details. It looks very nice, but the alert colors and exclamation point are my two nits. I particularly like how the messages waiting badge perfectly covers the two lower bubbles without visible overlap; it's a nice, subtle detail.
Personally, I'd try to use some sort of icon instead of a different font. I suppose that using an icon for the connecting state would make it even more consistent and unified. It since the actual state is "idle", not "busy", it would be nice if the preview reflected that. It would be ideal if the icon would reflect multiple simultaneous states, like idle + away.
