File Transfer Sender Subdirectories

File Transfer Sender Subdirectories

Submitted By malesca

Description

Puts incoming files in per-sender subdirectories of the default directory.

Source code available.

Notes:

If your Adium is configured to automatically accept files, things should Just Work. If you're prompted for the download directory, going with the default directory (the "Save files to" directory in the File Transfer settings) will cause the file(s) to go into a sender subdirectory. If any directory other than the default directory is selected, the file(s) will go where specified and not into a subdirectory.

Changes

1.1 (2008-08-28): Adium 1.3 compatibility.
1.0 (2007-05-24): First version.

I installed it but nobody's sent me a file yet to test it out.

Just so we're aware, how do we disable this plugin if it seems to be making Adium malfunction?

# by malesca on 05/27/07 at 05:45:03

As with all plugins: just (re)move it from ~/Library/Application Support/Adium 2.0/PlugIns/ and restart Adium.

It's OK..

# by sur1v on 09/27/07 at 07:02:46

does this work in yahoo messenger?

# by malesca on 09/27/07 at 07:16:55

Try it and let us know. It's not hard-coded for any particular protocol, so it should work in all of them, but file transfer only works in MSN for me, so that's all I've tried it in.

hi

thank you for this greate plugin, really makes the whole thing easier. the only downside is, that the folder also includes the displayname and not only the username. i've got some folders that look like this
●•●◦°° [.×. ѕрάcεcάкε__x .×.]°°◦●•● [_×.15тн dεz_рάяту._ωεя ςнύиd ѕύfd._x3.×_] [_×.мάяά. ѕüzzεн._вεѕт fяїεйds εvά.

sorry for the tripple post, the board seems to cut off the messeange. anyway, heres the ending

...which is really disturbing.
can you make the plugin eigther opensource so that we can change the folder name on our own, or make some kind of preference where we can choose more options?
thaaanks a lot

# by malesca on 01/24/08 at 10:26:13

The plugin is open source – the second paragraph of the description has a link :)

# by fabiopigi on 01/24/08 at 17:59:35

oops, :D did only read the notes, and tried to open the plugin in textwrangler, thought maybe its just like an applescript like, :)
anyway, thanks, i'll watch what i can do

# by malesca on 08/29/08 at 06:55:32

Afraid it's not just like an AppleScript – you need to install Apple's Development Tools (free, but a big download), write code and compile :)

If I find some time I may look into customizable folder names in user UI, but I can't promise that.

In response to "MSN transfers are the only ones that ever work":

I have no problems sending files over AIM or ICQ, and in fact I hate MSN transfers because they always slow down to prehistoric 300 baud modem speeds after the first few seconds. It takes me half an hour to transfer a 5 MB file over MSN. I never send files over MSN. It's worse than email.

# by dlusion on 06/22/08 at 18:34:40

so.. did anyone fix the folder name thing?

i´d like to have them at least with their email adress, and at most, with the custom nick name ive given them.

# by bsck on 10/13/08 at 10:22:38

For future reference, I've uploaded a modified version of this plugin that names folders based on their email addresses. I will maintain it until malesca adds configuration options to this plugin.

Cheers

Nice. Feel free to fork me on GitHub (http://github.com/henrik/file_transfe...ies_plugin/) and commit those changes, for hackability.

doesn't work with the newest version of Adium :(

# by malesca on 07/23/08 at 08:35:45

I just tried with 1.2.7, worked for me.

# by scorpion919 on 07/23/08 at 08:36:28

i'm on 1.3 beta9

# by malesca on 07/23/08 at 08:42:47

Okay. This is a plugin that I still use myself, so I'm likely to fix it when 1.3 is out of beta, but probably not before then.

# by scorpion919 on 07/23/08 at 08:43:32

ok =)

# by Benyamin on 08/07/08 at 22:49:02

Yeah it broke at about beta 9 or 10 of 1.3. Please fix it, as it is my favorite of all the plugins, even more than the Skype plug-in. :D

# by malesca on 08/28/08 at 07:51:47

Should now work with 10.3.

# by malesca on 08/28/08 at 07:51:57

1.3, I mean :)

# by scorpion919 on 08/28/08 at 14:36:59

thanks =)
