And yeah, it's probably a registered trademark. I'd actually have liked to see some animations to make it new.
# by bonniejonnie on 02/15/07 at 09:15:50This has indeed been done before, but my version gets the colours spot-on. Download the other version, if you like, and put it next to iChat in the dock. You should be able to observe some tiny defects.

I’m sure it probably is copyrighted; but I’m certainly not the first to do this, and no one else has received cease and desist letters from Apple Legal.
At the end of the day, we’ve all bought copies of OS X — in a way buying the rights to use the iChat icon. How we use it is sort of up to us. That’s how I see it.
