DescriptionFirst Message Style Alert.Ok, now that this is out of the way, let me tell you a little bit about this new Message Style. I decided to put something a little extra into the style, animation. This style is the first to utilize Yahoo! UI Library (YUI). Getting this implemented was tricky, but upcoming version of AdiumX will have a better way of handling JavaScript. Either way, it makes chatting a bliss. I've been meaning to create a Message Style of my own for a while, but haven't had the time or will. The release of AntiPropaganda Message Style pushed me over the edge. My hat is off for the creator of that style as it is simple and beautiful. To turn off Animations
Feel free to post any bugs you find as I am figuring this stuff out as I go. Matching styles? - Please let me know if you'd like to see another Adium style that matches this Message Style well. I'll try to woop something up! Thanks and enjoy! ChangesLATEST 1/120/2007: I'm back in town and decided to remove fade effect. It slows things down too much. Too much memory cost over small visual benefit, so it's gone. Enjoy faster performance. Remember, for even faster results, just disable animation (read above).1/17/2007: Cleaned up a lot of JavaScript, thus making animation much more smoother! Re-download if you've been having problems with animation being choppy. Also added opacity change, so let me know if you like that. Changed some spacing in between messages to make better use of space. Fixed more minor bugs (status fix, etc.) Make sure to completely exit Adium and then start it up again if you have the old version 1/16/2007: Added 30 color variations. After I finished I noticed Orange & Pink (yes, Pink) in fact look very similar. I'll fix that later. Also, added a way to toggle the animations (whether you want it or not). 1/16/2007: Fixed big positioning bug. Works much smoother now. 1/15/2007: First release. Kinda buggy. Need ideas, suggestions, critique and perhaps ideas for variant colors. CommentsYou can reply to individual comments by clicking the "Reply" link next to each. # by dijama on 01/16/07 at 11:30:54Nice style, and it also makes me want Oskar to work on AntiPropaganda more, cause it also rocks.
# by modyen on 01/16/07 at 17:16:02Color variants and this is the best ever.
Blue and green etc. obviously. # by 61Tipo61 on 01/16/07 at 22:39:33Is there a file that I can edit that either speeds up, or removes the javascript animation all together? I really like the look of this style, but it seems that my eyes are too quick for the animation >.< Great style nonetheless though :)
# by Dimitry on 01/17/07 at 00:01:41Yup, I just built that in, very good idea.
Updating the skin with an array of colors/variants right now. Look for an update later tonight. Thanks for the feedback! # by air__devil on 01/17/07 at 00:16:46I like it! Looking forward to having some variants if you're going to do 'em!
# by Dimitry on 01/17/07 at 01:44:49Done, 30 variants. Basically 6 different colors rotated for your viewing pleasure. And 61Tipo61, option to turn off Animation is added.
Enjoy! # by Mxwllsmrt4 on 01/17/07 at 01:57:31how do i turn off the animation?
# by Mxwllsmrt4 on 01/17/07 at 02:07:25sorry i am and idiot and didn't just read how to do it above.
sorry dude. cool style though, really love it. # by parachute on 01/17/07 at 03:18:22I really really like it except the background doesn't seem to match any of the colors at all. Perhaps it's just a little too dark and eye-catching. Something that is simple or even nothing at all would be perfect. Also, the timestamps seem really redundant when you have it next to the name as well as during every line of text. Great job and I'm looking forward to seeing more of this kind of stuff.
# by evands on 01/17/07 at 05:00:55Your status.html is missing an insert div at the end of its outermost div tag, so multiple status messages in a row won't be displayed. You should add {div id="insert"}{/div} before the last replacing {} with greater than / less than :)
# by monkeyman767 on 01/17/07 at 17:06:23hate to tell you but the downloaded file is weired you end up with a blank document that when you click on it it creates an archive of it
# by edr1084 on 01/17/07 at 17:39:18I haven't been able to reproduce your issue, try re-downloading it.
Also, are you on .89.1 or 1.0b24? (this could make the difference between it working and not) # by monkeyman767 on 01/17/07 at 17:40:301.0b24 i did re download and install the normal way but nothing
# by biglittledragoon on 01/18/07 at 18:38:36Same problem here to decompress the downloaded archive. I had to add "zip" at the end of the file name to decompress it properly.
BTW, it's very nice. I'd like to have (alternate) icons too. # by kitesinflight on 01/17/07 at 23:07:22wow this is awesome! the animation kind of seems jumpy though, as if it missed a few frames. is there any way i can fix that?
# by Dimitry on 01/17/07 at 23:45:06Animation itself should be smooth. Maybe what you're seeing is a quick flicker before animation starts... This is the only way to implement animation right now, but having done everything else (I think?), I'm going to work on improving that, so stay tuned!
# by fissure on 03/15/07 at 21:53:00Yeah, I think I'm feeling the same jump. It's that the header just appears instantly, and then the message is slowly revealed. I think the perfect method would be to have the header and the message both be revealed in one animation. More snappy animation would be nice too, but of course I understand this is difficult to implement in adium, and what you have so far is impressive :)
# by Rebekia on 01/18/07 at 00:09:54I really like this..I love the soft colours and how it's easy on the eyes, but I wish we could replace our large name boxes whenever we enter text with just their image icon. :)
# by mlmprules on 01/23/07 at 14:31:08this is really amazing.
what's the picture in the background? I really like the design. # by jeby on 01/27/07 at 10:21:54wow. i love it! a variant with avatar? with this style i've also sometime some problem with "custom emoticons" from Windows Live messanger users.
# by Dimitry on 01/27/07 at 14:57:07Ah, if I have some time, I'll look into such problems! Thanks for letting me know. I'm not sure avatar variants will come, just b/c it would be hard to work that in and keep the same shapes, but I will also think about it and see what I can come up with. Glad you're enjoying it!
# by jeby on 01/27/07 at 17:16:46Yes I know! I imagine something like this mockup:
http://img49.imageshack.us/img49/4715...ckupgs2.png problems with the non-square avatar. Now we have this beautifull message style, someone knows if exist a contact style that match with ArtHero? # by avorio on 02/04/07 at 00:03:41Great work! It's my favourite style now. :]
Just one bug found: when I change the text size for messages I only see the change on outcoming messages. It seems that incoming messages are using a default fixed size (10px?). How could we fix that? Thanks! # by Daffy on 02/07/07 at 00:13:40This is the only one I've downloaded that's worked as described. It looks fantastic! :)
# by ronald_poi on 02/19/07 at 00:34:07Best theme i've used except for the impossibility to change font or font-size... Id like to use my loved Lucida Grande on 13px... how can i do that?
# by fissure on 03/15/07 at 21:37:57Sure would be sweet if this supported custom background colors :)
# by Daffy on 04/20/07 at 21:33:53Note to all:
If you're having problems downloading this (As I was earlier), I have figured out a workaround: 1. right-click or control-click on the link where it says "Download" 2. open up Terminal.app (if it's not on your dock, hit Command+Option+U, type "ter", and then Command+o. Or, just go to "Utilities" and open it up. 3. type 'Curl -o arthero.tar.gz ' (without the quotes, but with the trailing space), and hit Command+C That's it. For those of you who are uninitiated in the ways of Mac, the Command key is the one with the little squiggly clover-leaf pattern. # by EmeraldVee on 07/19/07 at 07:32:13I'd like to thank you for sharing this workaround. For some reason I would keep downloading the file, and while the download went fine the file wouldn't extract as it should. This solved the problem first try. Thank you so much!
# by Daffy on 07/19/07 at 17:02:50Thanks! I'm glad you got the gist of what I was doing there :)
I keep being annoyed by how badly I wrote that hint, so I'll try again here, for people it might not be working for… 1. Right or control + click on the Download link, and choose "Copy link location" 2. Open up Terminal.app, and in the window that appears, type the following: curl -o arthero.tar.gz and then type a space, and paste in the url you copied, by hitting Command+V or edit => paste. Then, hit return. Sorry if my previous hints and "clarifications" confused anyone... # by Daffy on 04/20/07 at 21:35:29just wanted to add- the result will be in your home folder (Command+Shift+h)
# by Daffy on 04/20/07 at 21:39:25sorry to keep posting (wish there was an edit function) -
make sure to hit return after you've entered the command and hit command+c. # by jpfeffer on 05/09/07 at 15:44:52i agree, can you make it so there is a custom background?
thanks, i love it! # by miss_lix on 07/02/07 at 20:49:16when i follow the directions to turn the animation off, template.html is only showing:
%@ %@ there is no line 11. # by EmeraldVee on 07/19/07 at 07:33:37This is quite a wonderful message style -- fancy yet not overbearing. If this is truly your first style then might I say bravo. I'd love to see other works of yours in the future.
# by dancexf0rxme on 11/05/07 at 20:23:20Would love to see a matching contact list style!
# by BrilliantWinter on 10/15/08 at 16:46:27fully agree! this is an amazing style! Thank you Dimitry!
# by superfnord on 12/23/07 at 19:31:15I can't control my own font in the chat setting, every setting looks the same, and when I change the size it only changes the size of the other person's font. Other than that, it's quite nice.
# by Dachaz on 01/15/09 at 23:39:13It's rather visually pleasing, but buggy as well.
Namely, too often did my messages appear as being sent by the person I'm chatting with, which would follow with theirs being shown somewhere above (with no decoration) so when I realised that I'm re-opening chat windows several times per discussion, I decided to stop using it. And thanks for the hats-off - things like that make me want to work on AntiPropaganda more (which I will, and also with Yahoo! UI).
Cheers,
