Front Row-inspired message style, hence the pants name.

Updated for modern versions of Safari — delicious CSS gradients and reflections. Only tested in Safari 4; there may be bugs in earlier versions.

absolutely beautiful

# by Spookster on 10/04/06 at 06:39:16

*sets as new message style* ab-so-lutely beautiful

# by prach on 10/04/06 at 10:39:58

awesome job! and the installation actually works!

# by Maverick on 10/04/06 at 10:58:33

wow! amazing!

# by gottacoppafeel on 10/04/06 at 13:28:33

i love it!

# by gottacoppafeel on 10/04/06 at 13:41:28

a smooth-scrolling version would be well as a little more space between contact and sender would be nice

# by katlady81 on 10/04/06 at 23:03:39

Will use when - allow custom background/color and maybe show names? Also, the time format is in a large font so it is like...RIGHT next to the entered text when used with my icon left, theirs right.

# by TotakekeNL on 10/05/06 at 09:12:55

Absolutely fantastic! My new favorite message style.
I'd really like to see a few tiny alterations though. I find it rather hard to distinguish between my own and other people's messages (for example when the incoming message text color option is turned off). People setting their own text color is ok, but that becomes a problem when people use black text. Would it be possible to convert black text into white and leave other colors intact? Any other solutions for separating own messages from those of other people would be very welcome.

# by player1 on 10/05/06 at 23:32:28

The style is so nice...but can you please take away the smooth scroll? It seriously slows down the scrolling speed. This is very annoying because sometime I need to scroll through several hundred lines (yea, I chat that much).

# by PRe on 07/03/09 at 12:23:10

To disable the smooth scroll, edit file:
Library/Application Support/Adium 2.0/Message Styles/Cinematic.AdiumMessageStyle/Contents/Resources/Template.html
Uncomment line 75, and comment lines 77 to 89.
Restart Adium, and it should be fine.

# by moehnetiger on 10/07/06 at 13:08:47

Very nice indeed, but somehow I got used to message styles with a header. It would be nice If you could add a Header, cause without it looks kinda "naked" at the top ;)

# by cybergus on 10/13/06 at 13:36:12

best message style in a very long time :D

# by twfarley on 10/27/06 at 23:28:39

Set as soon as I saw it. I love this. Great job.

# by patchrapon on 10/29/06 at 09:15:00

This is cool! I'm enjoying Adium even more these days before of this message style. Nice work. Thank you.

# by Dylan1077 on 11/06/06 at 22:47:14

Great work!

# by mike2005 on 11/09/06 at 21:45:43

If the icon can be smaller, it will get better.

# by Iiro on 11/09/06 at 22:47:08

Awesome message theme, 5 ducks!

But I agree with mike2005, there could be a variant for smaller buddy icons, say 16x16 pixels?

# by EX144 on 11/10/06 at 19:54:44

awesome theme! One thing...since white text is nice to use on it, what do i do about the fact that I cant see what i am typing until i enter it since the text box is also white?? Thanks

# by bob_the_gorilla on 11/10/06 at 20:29:51

Your text _should_ be auto-formatted as white, so you can leave it set to send as black. :)

# by EX144 on 11/10/06 at 20:55:22

thanks for the reply. Odd...when I set it to black, it enters as black too.

# by bob_the_gorilla on 11/10/06 at 22:09:04

Hmm. For "text display" in Adium prefs, the colour should indeed be white. However, your actual font _sending_ preferences (Apple-T when the message window is selected) should be black. That way Adium should reformat the message in white for display, but actually send a black font (and display that in the input area). That's how it works for me here, anyway!

# by EX144 on 11/10/06 at 22:41:08

I got it to work now. I had to change the color in the chat window first, then in the prefs. Apparently, it doesnt work the other way around, which is what I was doing. Thanks again. Gorilla rocks

# by bob_the_gorilla on 11/10/06 at 22:10:01

Please be assured that all comments have been taken on board, and - eventually - there will be another release!

# by mike2005 on 11/11/06 at 11:30:10

I tried to modify the context.html to get a smaller icon version for immediate usage, but no luck.
There will be a gap between the icon and the reflection.

I knew it is the problem of reflection.js, but I don't know how to solve it.:(

# by df0notfoundNeue on 11/11/06 at 15:09:21

Looks nice but I can't use it because everything is white, make a version with different shades for incoming outgoing and status messages.

# by bob_the_gorilla on 11/11/06 at 17:14:56

That would be contrary to what I'm trying to achieve here, so I'm afraid it's not going to happen.

# by arork on 11/12/06 at 13:54:47 it :)
Bravo !!!

# by J.Oney13 on 11/12/06 at 14:03:45

hey who are you? i just want to be your friend,

# by J.Oney13 on 11/12/06 at 14:00:13

cool i like

# by rucativava on 11/16/06 at 05:47:18

Well, I have to say that I am currently using this theme because it looks great, but I guess it would turn better if there was an option to have "Theirs" chat next to "Theirs" icon, so it would turn easier to distiguish beteween mine and theirs lines of chat. Keep up the good work!

# by Daniel on 11/19/06 at 09:12:28

Awesome work! :)
The custom message background support would be really good in the next release indeed! I would like to try it with a quiet transparent background, maybe it looks good. And many other variations would be also good, for instance: bigger-smaller icons, a more minimalistic type with smaller fonts-icons etc...

But it's still one of the bests! :)

# by cpuente on 11/28/06 at 17:41:01

Simple irresistible!

# by gregday on 12/02/06 at 11:05:09

Gorgeous. I'm switching from the IRC style to this. I love the subtle shadow behind the text, most visible when you have a blue hyperlink.

# by willknowles on 12/03/06 at 01:59:19

I searched for hours for a good message style, and I finally found it. Great job.

# by I_K_I on 12/12/06 at 21:48:16

really cool, only unlike the screenshot, most ppl use black fonts...

# by I_K_I on 12/12/06 at 21:50:33

sry, scratch that

# by I_K_I on 12/12/06 at 21:51:54

about the black font, not about the coolness

# by fluffyhelen on 12/17/06 at 13:25:11

I'm a big fan of this.

# by Rebekia on 12/24/06 at 11:08:18

I love the idea and I love the clean dark lines, but sometimes people on aim post in other colours and one of my friends text is grey so it comes out black in our convos making it impossible to read on top of the black. Also yeah I need the names and um if the text for the person you're speaking with is tabbed in a little bit away from yours you could read it easier. (Like ichat)

# by midoriel on 01/14/07 at 09:35:16

wow. stunning. I love this!

# by wimpus on 02/09/07 at 07:40:29

This is top work!!! :-)

# by miken3 on 02/18/07 at 02:19:06

Wow love this theme. Just need custom background and it's good to go.

# by lolamione on 02/19/07 at 18:45:49

I personally believe this is one of the best Xtras ever.

# by MadecK on 03/07/07 at 09:50:44

I really like transparency, so I did this mod into that really nice theme of yours...

If you have any comment or want the file I edited, ask me ! I would also like to know if I can post my version, while giving you credits ?

# by MadecK on 03/07/07 at 09:51:22

# by bob_the_gorilla on 03/08/07 at 08:17:55

I like it! In answer to your question: yes, you can post it. It's sufficiently different that it won't cause confusion (I'm normally not very happy about people posting modifications as if any future fixes are required, it's very unclear who is responsible for it). I would really appreciate it if you call it something completely different though: again, to make it crystal clear that it's nothing to do with me :-)

# by Reita-sama on 08/17/07 at 19:31:15

Where did your theme go, man? It was cool.

# by MadecK on 03/08/07 at 08:49:42

Ok great, my version is going to be called Dégradé or Degrade, witch is completely imagination-less...

# by Johnnos on 03/17/07 at 16:00:31

Nice! :D

# by Mistron on 04/04/07 at 19:07:07

Very nice!

# by KrishanuAR on 01/02/08 at 04:30:52

It would be cool to see this with adjustable opacity! :)

# by marekkane on 01/18/08 at 15:48:51

I love this style, but my font settings are messing around with me. I can't change them individually, if I change the font colour for the style, it is changed for the output font colour as well. Doesn't matter which order I set them in.. Any hints on how to fix this?

# by empty on 02/29/08 at 09:51:13

nice one, but i would prefer to set the font (a little smaller), visibility of user icons etc for my own.
how is this possible??

# by rodericj on 05/08/08 at 19:13:50

Looks so nice, The only issue is that we can't use it in jabber chat. I get no names for the users so I can't tell who is saying what

# by asweet on 02/25/09 at 18:30:32

Unfortunately, it seems like Safari 4.0 breaks the reflections in this great style.

Anyone else having this issue?

# by erterte on 02/27/09 at 22:41:45

You can fix the bad reflection issue with Safari 4 by downloading a newer version of reflection.js from here:

Put this file in /Users//Library/Application Support/Adium 2.0/Message Styles/Cinematic.AdiumMessageStyle/Contents/Resources/. You may want to rename the current reflection.js that's sitting there (it's version 1.6).

# by erterte on 02/27/09 at 22:43:09

Whoops, comments don't like angle brackets. Put the javascript in this directory:
/Users/[your_username]/Library/Application Support/Adium 2.0/Message Styles/Cinematic.AdiumMessageStyle/Contents/Resources/

# by erterte on 02/27/09 at 22:51:13

And one last note: in the new reflection.js you need to change one line:
defaultHeight : 0.5,

Should be:
defaultHeight : 0.3,

Or else the reflections will be too long and the style will break.

# by fungorilla on 06/10/09 at 06:11:27

i can't seem to fix it..
1. can't locate folder "Contents" and "Resources"...
2. Don't know how to editing the reflection.js script
/Users/[your_username]/Library/Application Support/Adium 2.0/Message Styles/Cinematic.AdiumMessageStyle/Contents/Resources/

# by Reavermaster on 06/13/09 at 13:04:47

@erterte: Yeah your discription fixed the reflection-problems at adium. Thx man :-)

# by fungorilla on 06/14/09 at 18:00:09

how do u do it?

# by Reavermaster on 06/14/09 at 18:55:01

1.) I downloaded the new reflection.js(
2.) moved to /Users/[your_username]/Library/Application Support/Adium 2.0/Message Styles
3.) opened the package content of Cinematic.AdiumMessageStyle
4.) moved to /Contents/Resources/
5.) replaced the reflection.js with the new one
6.) opened reflection.js with dashcode and edited the line "defaultHeight : 0.5," to "defaultHeight : 0.3," and saved it ...
That's it ... sorry for my bad english ...

# by fungorilla on 06/15/09 at 02:51:20

sorry i don't get point number 3. How do you open Cinematic.AdiumMessageStyle?

also was it /users -> then /library/.... I can't find "my username" based on the finder?

# by Reavermaster on 06/15/09 at 10:24:38

Right click on the Cinematic.AdiumMessageStyle and click at open content. Don't know if it's really named open content or something like show content. I'm from Germany so at me it's named Paketinhalt anzeigen.

And your name have to be in the user folder. If not you are not a user of that mac;). You have to know that there are no special characters like ß or ö allow/will not shown.

And again ... sorry for my bad english.

# by Reavermaster on 06/15/09 at 10:27:10

Or you update the style to the newest version. The autor released an update ;).

# by fungorilla on 06/17/09 at 17:07:06

I've got it.. it's right-click then clicking "show package content". Thanks your last reply helped a lot! I manage to do it after all.. thanks guys especially Paketinhalt anzeigen!
