DescriptionI'm not sure if this has been done before, but if it has, i hope i am improving on it.List of what to do for the full effect: 1 - Transparency to 40%. 2 - Order contact list above other windows. 3 - Turn off groups. 4 - Make window style "Borderless Window". 5 - Check "size to fit horizontally/vertically" boxes 6 - Turn down Maximum width to 38. 7 - Use Dock Arrows for status icons. For the full Mac OS X integration, download Onyx and set dock to be at the bottem left. Please see coCoKNIght's comment for further OS X integration information. ChangesChanges in 0.2:Lots of new stuff. - Now looks more like the mac dock - Dock 'arrows' status icons included - Transparency settings fixed ImagesCommentsYou can reply to individual comments by clicking the "Reply" link next to each. # by Plentyofpaper654 on 07/05/06 at 17:44:54Simply an amazing idea. I usually don't see much interesting in terms of contact list styles, but you have offered something original that is not a bad idea at all. I find that I can generally get a picture of my contacts off of facebook, or just use my Mac Book's built in iSight. I would like to point out some room for improvement... I'm not sure if you can manage this effectively or not though. I would find it convenient if there was way to arrange the contact list horizontally as well as vertically. I find that the dock is better suited to the bottom of the screen, although I actually don't use it any more as I replaced it's functions with keyboard shortcuts (download Spark, use commond tab and command `, and hide windows instead of mnimize) so I think the bottom of the screen would be a perfect spot for my Adium contact list. It can also be moved to one side of the bottom if you move the dock to the other (you can enable this option by downloading Onyx so you can put the dock on the left or right side instead of it always being centered. Also, an auto-hide feature would be nice so it only appears when you move the mouse over it. I'm not sure if any of this is possible, but that would make the interface even better. You may also want to update your interface instructions to be more precise. I had to fiddle around with the preferences menu to find everything you were talking about, and please change transparentcy 5% to opacity 5%. Sorry to be nitpicky about that, I'm just trying to gve advice for any improvement I can find.
# by midjetville on 07/06/06 at 12:59:26ok, transparency will be set to 5% in a moment, i had the exact same ideas (horsinatal, hiding), but i could not figure out how to do it. im sure its possible using some sort of script or external program, but i havent had any luck looking.
ill fiddle with it some more and see if i have any luck. thanks for your input! # by midjetville on 07/06/06 at 13:03:29actually, sorry, but transparency is a seting you have to do on your own. lol i forgot about that.
# by ispytonyv on 07/06/06 at 16:38:39This one isn't getting any respect in the ratings but it's a solid idea... it works well in the 1.0 betas since you can set background opacity the list style's color, and even more important, you can have your contact list auto show/hide when on a screen edge- very dock like. I think your spacing is off though, or else that setting just doesn't get saved... because left spacing needs to be set at 0 (zero).
# by midjetville on 07/06/06 at 16:44:12spacing is set to 0 in the new version. lost of fixes!
# by ispytonyv on 07/06/06 at 16:50:05... funny I was thinking somebody should make an arrows set for status! Good progress!
# by midjetville on 07/06/06 at 16:54:13thanks!
the status icons are now added seperatly. should get aproved soon. # by Plentyofpaper654 on 07/07/06 at 17:51:12Yeah. The Beta show hide feature works really well. I think that makes it a stronger argument to change the default to view above other windows instead of below, as it will be hidden a lot of the time anyway and will behave more like the actual dock in that sense. I hope the 1.0 or some future update allows alteration of the show hide speed so it can synchronize itself with the dock and show up at the same time. It would also be nice to have the window that shows more info when you drag the mouse over a contact show up faster, although again, I think that is something that needs to be a part of Adium instead of a part of the contact list. The contact list is just about perfect now in terms of being unobtrusive and interfacing well with the OS/real dock. Nice to see some help from updates with the Adium application come to the rescue on the show hide issue.
# by midjetville on 07/08/06 at 15:29:57so, what beta show hide feature are you talking about? somthing you made?
# by Plentyofpaper654 on 07/08/06 at 16:28:12No. It's built into the Adium 1.0 beta. At least Beta 3. I don't know about the others. Here's a link. http://trac.adiumx.com/wiki/AdiumBeta Looks like they put Beta 4 up today. Some nice new changes have been made, most notably the hide/show option under Advanced preferences for the contact list. They've also added a really nice extras manager and you can sort your status messages into groups. Also, if you have multiple accounts, it won't give you a separate login notification for each of them. Just one noise for logging on. Seems a bunch of improvements have been made, and my only complaint is that the auto account log in feature has been removed and replaced by automatically loging accounts in if they were already that way.
# by midjetville on 07/16/06 at 14:09:58oh, i see!
it does work pretty well. sorry for not being here, i was in flordia on vacation for a week. # by Mxwllsmrt4 on 07/11/06 at 16:43:38It won't let me use the list layout or theme, well it won't even put them in the xtras.
# by LaughAttack016 on 07/13/06 at 12:36:34Same with me... i say install in the new beta version, and it says is has been installed. But it isnt in my contact list styles of themes.
