DescriptionThe BSD Daemon (Beastie).OSX is based on FreeBSD, and Beastie is the icon for BSD, so you are helping to spread the UNIX word by using Beastie as your Adium Icon! Here you can get him with Green shoes, if you prefer (instead of the blue that is up on this site). If you have other thoughts on what to do with him, let me know. I've altered Flap a little. He REALLY stands out in the dock, try him today! LOL! 5/5 even though I hate the whole devil thing.
# by on 12/24/04 at 10:05:12Well generically the BSD mascot is the daemon but "Beastie" refers to the FreeBSD daemon usually. He has a distinct look... and really though the daemon seems to be more of a FreeBSD thing given that NetBSD has changed to that orange flag and OpenBSD has Puffy (the blowfish)
Although I do wonder... some Beastie images may be copyright of McKusick... might want to check that. see: http://www.freebsd.org/copyright/...daemon.html for more info. # by csawyer on 12/29/04 at 04:21:21He's copyrighted, and I have permission to host him here from both the creator of the original Daemon, and the one that created this actual artwork(Please read the README.txt file for details, links, etc). Their stance was since OSX is based on FreeBSD, that it's still BSD, so it's OK to use the Daemon. He is technically the FreeBSD Daemon, but the creator says if you must give it a name, call him Beastie. So we have permission to use it, and I encourage you to do so! I can't figure out how to kill the first preview(that was from the first version). The second preview(the one with the labels for the different states, is for the current version). Photoshop file is available for your hacking pleasure @ http://www.yuma.ca/tech/adium/.
