I love the idea. Hope you're still willing to tweak. I tend to prefer abbreviation by chopping rather than consolidating consonants (I hate spelling this word).

Of course AIM, MSN, ICQ are musts. I'm not too familiar with the following services though, so I guess:
NOV/NGW (Novell Groupwise)
LOT/LST (Lotus Sametime)

LIV/LVJ (LiveJournal)
QQ! (QQ)
SIP/SMP (SIP/SIMPLE)

Go into Adium Preferences and under "Message" un-check "Show header".
